Section 1: We’ll start with all the skills you need to regulate your nervous system during the Safe and Sound Protocol. It can feel impossible to make lasting change when you haven’t trained your involuntary responses to align with your dreams but the skills you’ll learn and develop in the next months are designed to help you change that. SSP Music Therapy trains the involuntary parts of your nervous system into safe-relax mode & this can feel strange for people who aren't used to it but when combined with the other practices you’ll learn here, SSP becomes an easier, more enjoyable listening experience. The skills in the following sections help tone your autonomic nervous system plus they’ve been shown to change the white & gray matter in your brain, & the way your Large-Scale Brain Networks are functioning including the Default Mode Network. When you’ve done your daily practices & the Safe and Sound Protocol Music consistently over time, the structures & automatic responses inside your body & mind will have shifted into something more supportive to your life & the way you want to feel & function.

A Note About this Course!
We built this course as a series of starting points for you to find & explore your own practices for well-being. If you just do the practices as listed you will receive a lot of benefit but the real power to transform your life comes from accessing the intuitive force within you. Many people go to therapeutic offices looking for help but they still come out struggling in some way. This happens because our capacity to change what we are experiencing in our lives & how we show up comes from within. This course is meant to light up pathways for you to explore & activate your body's natural ability to adapt & change. With continued practice we truly believe in everyone’s ability to retrain their responses to life & line yourself up consistently with what matters most to you.
Aside from the research that documents tangible physiological changes, we are living proof that the practices in this course, along with the Safe and Sound Protocol, work & they will work more quickly if you let them evolve & become your own. To help your system sense the possibilities, we give variations underneath the videos for all the practices. This is about learning to tune in & trust what feels right for you. Try things on, evolve what works moment to moment, & leave the rest. May the new responses you create for yourself by choosing to focus your attention inward highlight & transform what you hold between yourself, your world, & your dreams. This course is my way of wishing all of us a beautifully self-aware, fun, connected, joyful life lived with ease. Section 2: The lessons in this section are about exploring your life & nervous system programming so you have a clear view of how to retrain the involuntary responses your nervous system is sending you throughout the day. The bulk of the writing & longer explorations are in this section & the other sections are more about the skills for training. Remember, no right answers, just write what comes to mind. Feel free to note anything that you might want to get into more deeply in your One-to-One Safe and Sound Protocol Session (there's a section for that in your Be Well Doc). Note: If you feel intimidated by writing it's more important to get through the course, into your Session, & on your SSP Music Therapy Journey. If you have to choose, try your best to complete the Explorations in this next lesson (How Your Nervous System Impacts Your Life) as they’ll help you map what you are shifting with Safe and Sound Protocol Music the most ☺️.
Section 3: Nervous System Training is about monitoring & creating balanced regulated states in your body a little each day so you can change the habits your Autonomic Nervous System picked up in childhood. While these unconscious habits worked to protect the way you felt back then they can make your life difficult today. It’s why the Safe and Sound Protocol works when you practice & retrain to create lasting change!
Section 4: Want to multitask retraining your automatic habits? Here you will find easy skills you can use to create stillness & power in your body & mind while you train with the Safe and Sound Protocol Audios. We usually don't realize it but in order to cope & keep up with life most of us developed ways of staying busy or distracted rather than resting fully in the present moment. It’s a bit like floating in space & time rather than running around putting out fires or playing whack-a-mole with life all the time, lol. When we are continually functioning & making choices from the most present moment of ourselves things slow down, what's important & loved gets done, relationships get closer, health improves, & life gets simpler. It's not that anything has changed on the outside, it's still a whack-a-mole world out there for the most part. But, the way you move through & interact with life changes because you are coming from this calm, steady, beautifully regulated place in everything that you do.
Section 5: We've gotten so many questions about Inner Child Work that I created its own section within the course to help you use inner child (parts) work at home. Having & maintaining a regulated nervous system also means processing the things of our past that we haven't been Still enough to sit with yet. The previous Skills Sections, especially when combined with the Safe and Sound Protocol, give you the tools needed to create that stillness. They can also help you stop & change physiological responses in the moment but Parts Work is the most incredible structure I've found to deal with the things that surface from inside of you as you begin to get still. It’s why it goes so well with the Safe and Sound Protocol.
It helps you reorganize the way you are relating to & using the experiences of your past so it no longer has the power to control you. It can feel a bit cartoonish at first but it works so well, especially for those of us with difficult childhoods. I've included some links to the research on it in the next lesson for those that like to read those things 💛
Section 6: You've learned so much already! This section is about bringing it all together to create & train with your SSP Music App + the new skills you've learned here to support the way you want to feel & live your life. The more you practice the more you'll be able to stop & shift what's happening inside of your mind & body regardless of what's happening around you.
