Triggers are anything that create a cascade of physiological responses inside of you that guide your thoughts, feelings, & choices to move in directions that don’t feel good or supportive to you long term. Triggers can be known & unknown, conscious & unconscious. Often we might think we are triggered or upset about one thing when the reality is that “one thing” reminds your body unconsciously of something about your past. That unconscious body memory, sets off the corresponding cascade of responses in the form of chemicals, feelings, emotions, thoughts, nervous system patterns & states, etc. This cascade of involuntary automatic responses is what your inner systems came up with way back in a childhood moment to make you more comfortable or protect you, but now it might just be getting in the way of your life & how you want to feel & act.
